Sometimes when my family is out for a walk, we ask the boys to “buddy up” and hold hands in pairs, as a way to help keep everyone together.
My 3-year-old and 6-year-old were buddies, walking along hand-in-hand, when my three year old looked back at me.
“Daddy’s not holding hands with anyone,” he said. “He doesn’t have a buddy.”
The six-year-old looked back at me.
“Daddy’s holding a beer,” he said.
Then he added: “Beer is Daddy’s buddy.”
Yes. Yes it is.

Sometimes people are curious about what I do when I’m not performing comedy, watching TV, or reading the internet.
This article does a pretty good job of describing my day job. An excerpt:
1. Design [software User Interfaces]
2. Write functional specs
3. Coordinate teams
4. Serve as the customer advocate, and
5. Wear Banana Republic chinos
In reality, I wear Old Navy khakis. With five kids, there’s no way I could afford clothes from Banana Republic.
I ended up missing last week’s Skittsburgh show due to a sudden onset of a sinus infection.
I’ll try again tonight. Unfortunately, I don’t think there will be any beads or masks. But you never know….

I was telling a friend about how my fifth-grader will soon be attending a school program that introduces children to the topic of “where babies come from.”
I said something like, “I think it’s that Wonder of Wonders program put on by the Buhl Planetarium.”
My friend said, “I think you mean the Carnegie Science Center. There hasn’t been a Buhl Planetarium in more than fifteen years.”
Sigh. Add it to the list.
The Skittsburgh Open Mic and Comedy Sketch show will celebrate “Fat Thursday” at tonight’s show.
Masks and beads will be involved, although it’s not clear (a) who will be wearing the masks and (b) what you’ll need to do to get beads.

I think Mike Tomlin and I used to go to the same barber back in 1991.
So I was at Quaker Steak for lunch today, and a man came up to me and said, “Did I see you at the comedy show at St. James Place tavern?”
This is the first time I’ve ever been recognized in public as a comedian.
Big week for me. First the Valley News Dispatch, now public recognition in North Fayette.
I doesn’t get any better than this!
Or rather: begins for the first time.
