Back in college in the early 1990s, one of my college classmates (a sweet young lady) asked me to make a cassette copy of my Bobby Brown Don’t be Cruel record album.
The album only took up side one of the cassette, so I made a mix tape of random songs on Side B.
(Readers under 30 years of age: please see these links.)
When I gave her the cassette, I said: “Don’t read anything into the songs on side B. They are just some songs I thought you would enjoy.”
Fast-forward to December 2008, and that sweet young lady and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. Below are lyrics from that mix tape — you tell me if there was a theme there or not.
NOTE: if you were not listening to Rockin’ Ron The Nighttime Dog on WAMO’s “Quiet Storm” circa 1990, you will have a lot of trouble with this quiz.
- I’ve been really tryin’, baby. Tryin’ to hold back this feelin’ for so long.
- You’re the kind of lady that I want to be in my life.
- I’m askin you baby: be with me, for a little while
- No pressure from me baby, cause I want you and I need you and I love you.
- I need you so much to keep giving me love.
- If you don’t know how I feel for you, it’s time I let all feelings show.
- I’ll treat you just like a queen and give you fine things.
- Why don’t we just lay down, baby, and hold each other real, real close?
- What I have to say is sealed with a kiss and a wedding ring.
This is the “whitest” post of all time.
In reality, I’m just pissed that I don’t recognize a lot of the songs.
Kudos to you!
